ABOUT THE ROLE

IKEA is super busy growing a modern global tech hub in our beautiful Amsterdam location. This is your opportunity to get in early and have a big say over our future.

The area you would join is within Global Platform Payments. When you pay at a checkout, self-serve, or bistro in any IKEA store you are doing so using the applications and services of this group. You will need to form a deep understanding of the technical landscape, architecture, and capabilities. Your goal will be to deliver an omnichannel customer experience. By creating modern capabilities and services that your teams will build, own, and run. Along this journey you will take a leading role in the growth and development of the platform owner group in the software engineering leadership craft. By mentoring and finding creative ways to grow and empower your teammates along our journey.

The opportunity here is enormous both for you and IKEA. You will solve challenges at a unique scale within a globally successful iconic company.
Platform payments live within Global Payments alongside Global Digital Payments. You will join five other Engineering Managers in our leadership group. We have teams across Amsterdam, and Malmo.


ABOUT YOU

You know what it means to be a successful Engineering Manager as you have held this role before. You are looking to take the next step of increasing your scope and impact. You have also been a hands-on engineer in your career. You understand the most important core principles of these crafts.

What type of leader are we looking for?

- You are highly collaborative working within your team and between teams.

- You have experience scaling up teams and growing engineering maturity to ambitious standards.

- You know to lead well within a cross-location teams within a remote setup.

- You can achieve meaningful results while dealing with complexity and constraints.

- You know how to navigate a large business with many stakeholders, goals, and priorities.

- You inspire others through a bias to action and experimentation.

- You listen as well as you speak.

- You can work with monolith applications, complex systems, and services; yet you know what it is to build modern microservices in the cloud.

- You have worked with vendors in the past and may have undertaken a re-platforming journey of your own.

- You have a passion for mentoring others and love being creative in how you grow people around you.

- You manage budgets.

- You know what it is to build, own, and operate services; you know how to fail well.

- Payment knowledge is a nice advantage, but not a deal-breaker.
